Miro In The Making: the December exhibition at the La Falaise Art Centre

From 6th to 21st December 2024, La Falaise Art Center is exhibiting children’s paintings that have been freely inspired by the work of Joan Miró, as part of an educational project with several local schools.

The project is an initiative of La Falaise Art Centre, in collaboration with the elementary schools of Cotignac, which has an artistic education programme integrated into the curriculum. In recent years, new schools have joined this venture, notably the elementary schools in Carcès, Barjols, Brignoles, Monfort sur Argens, Salernes, as well as students from IME Haut Var.

Assisted by their teachers, students have immersed themselves in the study of the creative process of a particularly renowned artist. Each year, they produce their own interpretation of the artistic works of said artist.
This year the work of Juan Miro has been chosen. Joan Miró, the artist born in Barcelona on 20th April, 1893 and died in Palma de Mallorca on 25th December, 1983, was a Catalan painter, sculptor, engraver and ceramist. Defining himself as an “international Catalan” above all, he is one of the main creators and upholders of the surrealist movement. After working on their creations, an exhibition has been set up to present the students’ work. The quality of the children’s contribution and their young talent always arouses sparkling interest among the art centre’s patrons.
A charity sale has been organised during this exhibition, with part of the profits raised being donated to support the school cooperatives.
